Miho Aida (she/they), originally from Tokyo, is the founder of environmental media project called “If She Can Do It, You Can Too: Empowering Women Through Outdoor Role Models.” By producing videos and films of dynamic outdoor women of color, Miho hopes for those who identify as girls and women to have role models who look, sound and live like them so that they know what outdoor careers, adventures and leadership opportunities are possible.
In collaboration with the Gwich’in Steering Committee, the Sierra Club and Patagonia, Miho has been taken her award-winning film: The Sacred Place Where Life Begins: Gwich’in Women Speak on bicycle film tours since 2014, riding over 3,000 miles across the country. Through the tour, she works to amplify the voice of Gwich’in people calling for a permanent protection of their sacred land from oil development in the Arctic. Miho advocates for outdoor adventures that are rooted in environmental activism in solidarity with some of the most marginalized communities. She is a featured athlete among the world’s most adventurous women 2019 in Men’s Journal as well as the recipient of 2018 NOLS Alumni Achievement Award and the 2017 SHIFT Adventure Athlete Award which recognizes the adventure athlete of the year who best promotes conservation leadership in the United States.
Miho is one of the 25 authors of a book: We Are The Arctic. In this book, she shares her essay: As the caribou go, so go the Gwich’in, describing her experience with the Arctic Refuge through a lens of the Gwich’in women while woking on the film.
Miho’s day job with NatureBridge as the Director of Equity and Inclusion/Educator allows her to catalyze change for NatureBridge to become a more equitable organization. She is a workshop facilitator, consultant and speaker sharing her experience with the work of equity, inclusion and diversity. Miho is a Liv Cycling supported cyclist and a backpacking/climbing guide for the Women of Color Wilderness Retreat in Yosemite with the Balanced Rock and formerly with NOLS. She is also a member of In Solidarity Project and its Outdoor Industry CEO Diversity Pledge steering committee.
